Hope Center
BUILDING DEVELOPMENT
In February 2020 we began delivering emergency food provisions throughout Bucerias, especially communities like Javier Ovando, Paraiso del Indio, Vista Bahia and Loma Bonita. These are the colonias where our beach vendors, hotel workers and house cleaners live. As we have become friends with these neighbors, we have seen so many needs. But as God so often does, He also showed us some solutions – one being a large, abandoned building in a prime area on the outskirts of town. A perfect place for a community center that could offer childcare for working single moms, daily meals, skill training, counseling, Bible classes and programs, even space for a residential children’s and/or family shelter. A place that could offer refuge, shelter and shade. A Refuge of Hope.
We began by leasing the building from a young widow, and have negotiated its purchase. Thanks to so many generous donors, we also purchased the adjoining lot behind to build a playground AND the adjacent lot beside for future expansion. Honestly, the way it all came together was a bit of a miracle! Our construction crew spent the first year doing extensive renovations and we now have 2 floors which house a kitchen, dining room, 4 classrooms, 2 multi-purpose areas, an emergency stay bedroom, 6 bathrooms, storage areas and an office. We are especially grateful to Bruce and Elaine Pigott of Tequila Gardens who donated their entire commercial kitchen to help us get started.
