Meet Martin
UPDATE: Martin’s surgery was a great success and he is now receiving twice-weekly therapy. Any funds left after his surgery and therapy will be put in our Medical Fund which helps our children and families with medical and dental needs. Thank you for your generosity!
Martin is a fun loving 10 year old boy who loves every sport, especially basketball. He loves to dance and often grabs the hand of one of the teachers to do a quick salsa step. Martin is always happy, always polite, always thoughtful, always kind.
But life isn’t always easy for Martin. He was born with a club foot and has not had treatment or therapy. It is hard for him to run with the other boys and to play the sports he loves. But that seldom stops Martin and he never complains as he tries to keep up and join in.
We have been fortunate to have found a local orthopaedic surgeon who has agreed to operate on Martin’s foot for free. First he will go through 3 months of weekly casting to try to turn the foot. He will be on crutches for those 3 months. Then he will have the final surgery, followed by physical therapy. While the doctor has offered his services for free -thank you Dr. Francisco – we will need to pay for the hospital costs which are approximately $70,000 pesos. There will likely be other costs such as physical therapy. All costs his single mom could never afford.
We have therefore started this campaign to raise the needed funds to help Martin in his journey. We would like nothing more than to see Martin run across the soccer field or dance his way across a dance floor.
